The European Powder Diffraction Conference, EPDIC, is a biennial conference dedicated to all aspects of the analysis of polycrystalline materials by diffraction methods. Each EPDIC has the aim to highlight the latest developments in powder diffraction including methodology, data analysis and instrumental advances. EPDICs traditionally bring together the scientists from institutes, universities and instrumentation companies to discuss the progress in academic and industrial research related to powder diffraction.
17th edition of EPDIC (EPDIC17) will take place in the town of Šibenik, an emerging star of the Croatian Adriatic coast. Šibenik is conveniently settled in a picturesque bay where the Krka River, one of the most beautiful karst rivers in Croatia spectacularly meets the mighty Adriatic, probably around the place where the original Croatian settlers first saw the incomparably blue Adriatic and decided to settle there and remain forever. Wouldn’t we do the same?
Šibenik today is the administrative, political, economic, social and cultural centre of the County of Šibenik and Knin which stretches along the 100 km long coastline between the Zadar and Split Rivieras, extending up to 45 kilometres into the hinterland area, at the bottom of Dinara mountain. Šibenik and Knin County have 242 islands, islets and above-sea reefs. Most of this unique archipelago is indented, bare and sparsely inhabited. The area of Šibenik has only 10 island settlements. The most numerous group of islands are the Kornati islands (national park), worldwide famous for their bizarre shapes and breath-taking beauty.
We hope that EPDIC17, as all of its ancestors, will provide an attractive scientific programme covering a wide range of hot topics interesting for powder diffraction community. It will be a lively occasion to gather the information of recent progress, share it with others and spread knowledge.
