Marie Curie Training Site Fellowships - Isolation and Structure of Biologically Active Secondary Metabolites
City: Naples (Napoli)
Three Marie Curie Training Site Fellowships fellowship (3 and 6 months) are available in the area of chemistry of natural products. The purpose of Marie Curie Training Site Fellowships is to support short stays by young researchers pursuing doctoral studies, providing them with the possibility of undertaking part of their doctoral studies in a country other than their own.
The fellows will participate in the research work in progress in laboratories of Fattorusso's group at the University of Napoli "Federico II", dealing with the study of metabolites of marine organisms (mainly invertebrates, but also algae and microrganisms). A choice of three different projects will be offered which reflect the ongoing programs of research: (a) immunomodulating glycolipids from marine sponges; (b) toxins from edible shellfish; (c) bioactive secondary metabolites from tunicates (d) antimalarial compounds from marine sponges. In any case, the fellow will be provided with a training in the isolation and structural determination of organic compounds on the basis of spectroscopic data, mainly NMR and MS. Besides their specific training, the fellow will participate in a largely interdisciplinary research, involving zoologists, chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists, which will allow her/him to improve her/his cultural preparation The fellow will have access to state-of-the-art instrumentation and techniques, and will be provided with both practical and theoretical aspects of her/his training. Thus, the student will work together skilled researchers in an internationally recognized, leading laboratory ill this field, and at the same time will attend at Ph.D. lectures pertinent to this research field. The ability to correlate the spectral properties of a molecule with its structure is a central feature in modern science, and will give a general tool to the fellow to be used in all their scientific career.
The application letter, with ink signature, prepared according the directions given in the call, should be sent by mail or by courier whithin the indicated deadline to the following address:
