About the University of Aveiro
The University of Aveiro (ca. 12,000 students) is located in the ‘Campus de Santiago’, a large area close to the salt fields, the Aveiro lagoon and the city centre.

About Aveiro city
Aveiro is a medium-size town in the north of Portugal, some 60 Km south of Oporto and only 8 Km from the Atlantic Ocean. Aveiro is crossed by canals, which give it a unique identity. In the ‘old town’ tourists can see typical fishermen houses close to the canals. Early in the morning, a variety of fresh fish caught overnight can be seen at the “Mercado do Peixe” (Fish Market). The ‘moliceiro’ is an elegant boat adapted to the lagoon work. Perfectly lined, painted with bright colours and with humorous decorations, this is a symbol of Aveiro. Well preserved dunes and rich fauna and flora may be seen at the São Jacinto Natural Reserve. The seaside includes a variety of other places of interest (e.g., the typical houses of “Costa Nova”). Those who appreciate good food may taste the delicious eel stew and a range of sea food. However, Aveiro is especially known for the famous ‘ovos moles’ (soft eggs), sweetened egg yolk in candied casings with a variety of shapes.

Travel

Access by Air
Aveiro is located about 60 Km South of Oporto and 260 Km North of Lisbon, where the nearest airports are located (http://www.ana-aeroportos.pt). From these airports, Aveiro is easily reached by train or car. If you arrive to Oporto (Sá Carneiro Airport), you may access the ‘Campanhã’ railway station by underground or taxi. The taxi trip takes ca. 20 minutes, without traffic jams. From ‘Campanhã’ railway station to Aveiro it takes about 45-60 minutes, with trains about twice an hour. If you arrive to Lisbon International Airport, take a taxi to the ‘Oriente’ railway station. The trip should take about 10 minutes, depending strongly on traffic. From the ‘Oriente’ railway station it takes about 2h30-3h to reach Aveiro, using the fast trains (Alfa or Intercity/Intercidades).
